Hey guys,

This will be my final post on this blog (tear). I'm still working on my new site hairdelacreme.com and it's hard work i tell you. I'm doing it all by myself so it wont be the best of best...lol. Any-who, i wanted to update you on my hair journey.

A few weeks ago i took my Bohyme out so that i could relax my hair on the 25th. To my surprise (after detangling my hair for 1 HOUR!)...i realized that i hit my goal of BSB! Ladies, when i straightened that first piece with my flat iron and then turn to the mirror (using another mirror to see the back) i screamed!!!! I couldn't believe my hair was that long! I truly believe my growth spurt was due to the Hairfinity Vitamins i was taking. I'm glad i bought another 2 months worth :-)

I was too anxious to relax and ended up relaxing on the 22nd. I used Affirm as my relaxer and the results were great! I also used Creme of Nature's Neutralizing Shampoo and DC'd with my ORS Hair Mayo, Honey, 1 teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil and Aphogee's 2 Min Reconstructor. I had some trouble self relaxing because i wasn't used to my hair being so long. I protected my relaxed ends with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Petroleum Jelly. I had a few accidents like the hair with relaxer on it flying into my eye (NO BUENO!!!!) and some relaxer falling on my forehead. I should have based my hairline to protect my hair from the relaxer but i was too anxious and ended up burning (literally) my temple and the skin below my eyebrows (SMH).

After relaxing i used got2b's Guardian Angel Heat Protectant, blow dried, moisturized with Creme of Nature's Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-in Creme Conditoner, sealed with Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and flexirod my hair. I let the flexirods sit in my hair for about 2 hours and then i wrapped my hair and then put on my silk scarf.

I tried to take good pics of the results...Do you see the shinyness on the roller? :-D

I dont think i will be installing weaves in my hair (maybe i'll change my mind in a few months lol) because i lost a lot of shed hair due to the speed in my growth and now my hair feels thin. My mom thinks that the reason why my hair feels thin is because it's freshly relaxed but i think i will chill out with the weaves and bun or wig it for the rest of the winter. I'll probably weave it for the spring and then relax in the summer....who knows.

What a Journey!

I was looking through my hair pictures and realized that my road to WL (Waist Length) is a loooong one. It took me 3 years to make APL (armpit length) and I still have more years to reach WL. But with this journey I was able to see that with hard work I can accomplish a big goal in my life.

For those who don't know....the reason why I started this blog was to prove that a girl like me can grow their hair....down to those butt cheeks! It actually brings tears to my eyes to see how far I've come.

I was tease in school by my classmates because of my hair. Shallow right? My closest friends in Junior High all had long hair...there was Taren (who's biracial and currently has her own site and YouTube channel), Susana (Puerto Rican), Kimberly (who was mixed with Indian...no really she was...lol) and then me. In Junior High I was in a faze where I hated the length of my hair and started to experiment with weaves. I was horrible back then!!! HORRIBLE!!! One of my classmates started to pick on me in front of the whole class and yelled "You think you're cute with that weave in your hair?! You think you're fitting in with the rest of your crew because they all have long hair? You're not!" and the whole class started to laugh.

Not only was I verbally abused in school about my hair, but my mom (who is Venezuelan, Indian and Black) always made comments like "Why didn't you take after my side of the family?" or say "I don't understand why your hair isn't growing" while doing my hair. My older sisters all had APL hair or longer...hell even my little sister had BSL (bra strap length) hair at the age of 2! My mom would bleach her hair and even relax what she thought were naps and was still able to maintain MBL (mid-back length) hair.

I was always the black sheep when it came to my hair. Being the only one in the family stuck at SL (shoulder length) while every one else was swinging their long locks made me sooo mad!

In 2007 I was fed up with my hair not growing and decided to cut it all off. It was something I had to get used to but when I got sooo many compliments I thought...short is the way to go. In Dec 2008, I asked a co-worker of mine how she got her hair to be so shiny and she mentioned that she co-washed...I asked "What's co-wash?" and that's when she put me on to longhaircareforum.com. During my lunch break I logged onto the site and was hooked! I saw so many black women with LONG HAIR and my mouth dropped. I stayed on that site for hours trying to absorb as much information as possible. After seeing that black hair can grow I was on a mission to see how long I can grow mine.

Almost 2 years later passed since logging onto that forum and my hair is the longest and healthiest it's been my whole life! Now it's my turn to educate you ladies and help you out there reach those hair goals you thought was impossible to reach.

Forget the myths like...relaxers and weaves break your hair out, if you trim your hair it will grow faster, black hair can't grow, etc.

2011 is approaching ladies...will you be determined to grow long healthy locks?

How To Split A Weft?

I've been getting questions from you lovely ladies on how to split the weft aka the track of a weave. I found a short video on YouTube that demonstrates how to do it. Basically all you need is:
1. a good, sharp razor blade
2. hold the track in your hand and place the blade in between the track and...follow what the young lady does in the video below.

Be careful when splitting the weft that you don't cut the track by mistake....and your fingers...lol.

Experiment with Herbal Essence Totally Twisted

Hey Guys,
I'm taking my install out in approximately 13 days and i can't wait. I love this hair and all but I'm just anxious to see how much hair i retained while in this weave.
I took a trip to Target yesterday and bought a couple of products to try with my Bobraz. I picked up a bottle of Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Conditioner and the Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse.

When i got home i lightly wet my hair under the sink, detangled and applied the conditioner and then the mouse and two strand twist my hair. I made 4 twists (two in the front and two in the back) and then let it air dry overnight.

This was my result...
The curls came out more defined but the back needed a little bit more product. As you can see in the first picture, the back is a little puffy. I'm going to add more product to the hair tonight to see if it makes a difference. Overall, i like the way the curls came out and my hair (the leave out) blend so well with the Bohyme. The mousse didn't make my curls crunchy...this might be a staple for this hair.

Sealing Your Ends - Another Method....Hmmm I Just Might Try This

Cool News Report about becoming Natural

I may be late with this post but i just watched this video after viewing one of my favorite gossip blogs (theybf.com). I'd like to share this video with you all.

I think the young ladies in this video look absolutely beautiful with their natural hair. My younger sister went natural last year after years of suffering breakage due to relaxers. I on the other hand know and understand how to take care of my relaxed hair and don't plan to go natural. Come to think of it..all of my sisters are natural (you can check my older sister's blog about her journey to being natural here)

I dont think that being natural will make your hair grow any faster. If you take care of your hair...it will grow healthy whether you're natural or not. My younger sister was so violent with her hair, never kept it moisturized, colored or relaxed too often, hardly deep conditioned it and was always manipulating it which in turned damaged her tresses. She went natural so that she can make a clean start with her hair journey. Her hair is thriving and she's making better decisions when it comes to the health it.

Update on my Bobraz

Hola Chickas!!!!
I deep conditioned my hair this weekend and decided to DC the bobraz as well. The hair came out nice and pretty :-)
Here's the results....

I ended up taking the 14inches out because the blending was horrid! I ended up using the rest of the 12inches i bought and the install looked much better.

How Do I Style?: At night i would divide my hair in 7 sections (4 in the front, two on the bottom and 1 section on the top). I would take each section and double twist my hair then put a roller at the end. I use Cantu Shea Butter to make my curls nice, soft and shiny.

I'm going to let you girls in on a little secret of mine...i'm OBSESSED with my nails. I literally do my nails EVERY week. It's a must of mine to always have my nails done. Like my hair, i do my nails myself and i can say...i'm not that bad. RANDOM...i know.

Bohyme Brazilian Wave Revisited!

Hey Ladies,
Last week i installed my last weave for 2010. I went back to my trusty Bobraz...i bought a new pack (12inches, #2) and added it to my old stash (14inches, 1B). Below you will find pics of my hair after i installed it the night before.

I double strand twist my hair in the middle to mimic the texture of the hair. As far as making the curls pop on the actual bohyme....i washed and conditioned the hair after installing it, applied Cantu leave in, and then double strand twist the hair and put tiny rollers on the hair. I then sat under the dryer until the hair was about 80% dry (i only let it dry about 80% because i was running late for my dinner with friends). The hair gets very big!

The Growth Cycle

Who doesn't want healthy long hair? If you don't then why are you viewing my blog? Lol. Anyway, one way to understand how to grow long hair is to know about your hair such as the growth cycle of the hair.

The are three phases to our growth cycle. The anagen, catagen and the telogen.

ANAGEN - The anagen (the first phase) is the growth period. Every month our hair grows on average, about 1/2 an inch and gradually slows down as we get older. At any one time, 80 - 90 percent of your hair follicles on your scalp are in the ANAGEN phase. In short, the longer the anagen phase, the longer the hair.

CATAGEN -After the ANAGEN phase, your hair will turn into a transitional phase before going to rest. In this phase the growth pauses for about 2-4 weeks as the hair follicles moves up to the skin's surface. Approximately 2 - 3 % of your hair will be in this phase in your scalp

TELOGEN - In the final phase of the cycle, new hairs begin to grow underneath our old hair, which will fall out on its own or it can be pulled out through friction caused by detangling, shampooing or styling. Note: its normal to loose from about 50 to 100 strands daily either when your washing or combing your hair. Around 10 - 15 % of the hair in your scalp will be in TELOGEN phase. According to trichologist (a person who studies the science of the hair and its diseases) Andrea Hayden "if you notice thinning roots or increasing amounts of strands collecting on your shirt, that could be a sign of a problem.

Cool Fact: If you damage your scalp, your hair follicle will start a new growing phase. Cuts and wounds will cause the hair to grow around them provided that there is no scarring in the hair follicle.

Words of Advice

Hey guys,
I've had a lot of people hitting me up about starting their own healthy hair journey after viewing my blog. I would like to pass on some words of advice.

If your adamant about growth healthy long hair you must:
1. Be patient - it took me a good 3 or 4 months to see results when I began my journey

2. Be determined - don't start the journey if your going to quit 2 months into it. Just like with a goal of loosing weight or running a marathon...you have to train yourself to stick to a regimen in order to see results.

3. Be consistent - if a person wanted to loose 10 lbs in 1 month and exercises once every 2 weeks, they won't see results. But if that same person has a plan and sticks to it for that month they WILL see results. Consistency is key!

4. Don't Compare Your Journey - I always looked at the progress of others on Long Hair Care Forum. I would see girls go from SL to APL in 6 months and it took me 20 months. Comparing yourself with others will only discourage you.

5. Have Fun. Live and Learn - if you experience a setback don't give up! Remember...it WILL grow back. Luckily we live in a world where we can hide our mistakes such as a bad color, relaxer or cut. Buy a wig, apply a lacefront or install a weave....but don't neglect your hair underneath.

This is a journey...we WILL experience ups and downs, growth spurts and setbacks...but remember once your reach that goal...you'll be proud and can prove to the world that....BLACK HAIR CAN GROW!

Hey Guys,
Since having this install in my hair, I can't stop thinking about what i'm going to do next. I've been searching the net far and wide to get ideas, but I always go back to this youtube video that I saw over the summer. I subscribe to JanetCollectionTV's youtube channel to get many hair ideas and saw this one video they made on their newest Indian hair line. One model in particular had this bomb weave and I kept thinking...I WANT THAT STYLE!!! So that will be my plan for my next install which will be done Oct 22nd or the 23rd. I won't be using the hair in the video, but I plan on using my trusty Bohyme Brazilian Wave that I love so dearly. I'm using my Bobraz (in short) because I love the fact that it does not shed like a dog and can be blown straight. Since I plan on keeping that install in till the end of the year I will stick to what I know and love.

Weave for September

So it's been officially 1 week since I installed my weave for the month (i plan on taking it out Oct 9th for a event on the 10th). I was tired of doing my own hair so I installed this weave to give me variety without me damaging my real hair. The hair I decided to purchase is from the Dream Weaver's Model Model line and the style is Body Wave in 16 inches, 14 inches and 12 inches. I used about 2 1/2 packs of hair. The hair in total came up to $100 with a 10% back to school discount at my local beauty supply store. I was skeptical after buying the hair because the price was so cheap. After doing my research on hairsisters.com I found out that there were good reviews for the hair:

Ms. REDICT - Hello Ladies" This hair is so pretty. i been wearing it since May, same weave. I mixed this hair with the Model Model SOHO Curl. I just love it!!! DO NOT USE ANY HAIR PRODUCTS ON THIS HAIR, other than a little spray shine. I use Bonfi Wig Spray Shine in the purple bottle and that is about all I have put on this hair.. I shampoo it 1-2 times a week with with Pantene or Infusim23 shampoos. I like big curls so I use a curling rod on this hair once a week. It has lot of body and movement, and hold a beautiful curl.. Ms Johnson the 12" will come right a your shoulders or slightly pass, but not much. If you want a longer look, I recommend you purchase one 16" an 12". Put the 16" on bottom tracks and 12" on top. This will give you a natural layered curly look.. You have to remember hair is measure for length in its straight form before process with chemical to give it its wavy look. So a 12" curly / wavy hair is going to look like 10" when wavy / curly. This applies to all weaving hair brands."

Ms. CRAWFORD - "I got a sew-in with this hair yesterday. It is so soft and does not tangle. It looks absolutely beautiful. I got so many compliments and its only been two days. I bought two packs of 1B, I had a little hair left over. I am going to Miami for vacation for a week so I will give an update when I come back to let you guys know how it holds up."

Ms. GOMEZ - "I purchased this hair on July 10th for my family vac to Disney World, I was able to go to the water parks, swim, get in hot tub without any TANGLES it was wonderful once wet the waves loosen up but I have flat iron my hair it it still looks GREAT I have very course hair and this texture matched PERFECTLY. I have worn Saga, Bohyme, and even this hair from CA called extensions plus which is $200 per 2oz. This hair is truly worth trying once because you'll never wear anything else for sure! I ordered 2 pks of 14in"

I freaking LOVE this hair!!! When I walked into work on Friday I got so many compliments from my co-workers. Even my manager (who is a white male) stopped mid sentence to tell me "I LOVE YOUR HAIR!" Ladies this hair is a keeper and my money was well spent.

Ediese my hair idol on LHCF created a weave manual that I thought was 100% accurate and to the point that I would love to share with you all.

As you know. I will be jumping back into my weaves this fall/winter as many of you will be as well. In order for you to not have a setback, you must follow the rules listed below.

Are You New to Weaves? Here Are Some Definite DON'TS!!

I haven't searched, so I'm not sure if there is a thread like this already. If there is, this will just count as a refresher for those of you that are new to the world of weaves.

I think that I'm qualified to pass on what I've learned over the years because I started wearing glue in weaves when I was about 12. Then, I graduated to sew-ins at about 16. To think, I probably could have have WL hair by now.

Anyway, these are my lessons learned that I hope will be helpful to someone else. If anyone else has other tips, please list them, I'll compile it all to make a huge list.

1. After you take out your sew-in, DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR before you properly detangle and get out ALL shed hair. (Trust me, you will have a MAJOR setback if you do not listen to that one rule). I learned the hard way. My cousin advised me against it, and I told her that I have that 'good' hair, so my hair will surely not tangle. Well let me tell you...as soon as water hit my hair, it formed locs and got really matted. I had to chop out huge chunks of hair.

2. Do not let the stylist braid your hair or sew in the weave too tight. You'll know because aside from the major migraine that you'll experience, you'll see a lot of white bulbs on the tip of many strands along your hairline. This means that hair has been pulled out because of the tension. Also, tiny bumps will form in the back of your head. Silly me...I already know this, but I'm suffering from this right now. I need to listen to my own advice. I have two months to nurture my hairline.

3. It is not recommended that you wear your install for more than three months. I wore an install for four months this year, and thankfully I took it out when it first started to matt up, so I didn't lose any hair. The longer your leave the install coupled with the frequent washing + airdrying, shed hair, etc. will cause your hair to matt up over time.

4. Do not trust just ANYONE to take out your install. I always take out my installs by myself. I can't say that I don't trust her, but I don't even let my sister take it out. This way, if I happen to mistakenly cut my hair...oh well...at least I was the one that did it. Also, I'm much more patient, and can afford to take the extra 2+ hours to carefully take it down. I doubt a stylist will be that careful.

5. If you are planning to leave your install in for three months, you might want to rethink frequent washing and cowashing. I usually wash once per week, but sometimes I change it up to once every two weeks. Again, frequent washing and airdrying, product buildup, etc, might cause your hair to get matted..eer on the side of caution. (this is especially true for those with natural hair)

6. If you are getting a full sew-in with no hair left out, ask your stylist not to braid the baby hairs or the really short strands around your hairline. Trust me..this is the first time that I've had a full head sew-in with everything braided, and my hairline is missing. She braided every strand, and now I"m having to baby that area.

7. It is normal for you to see lots of hair in your comb after you take out your sew-in. Remember, you did have your hair braided for x time, and what you're seeing is most likely shed hair.

8. Try to do a protein treatment prior to the sew-in, and when you take it down. This helps to strengthen your hair.

9. It's also recommended that you at least wait 1-2 weeks before you reinstall another sew-in. This gives you an opportunity to give your real hair that much needed TLC.

10. Have fun with your weave! Remember there are so many different styles that you can achieve with a weave without damaging your real hair. Do you want some blonde highlights, a curly or wet n' wavy look, or perhaps a pixie cut? Go ahead, and weave it up! Um..you might want to stick with something that will look more natural though. If you're 4a or 4b, you might want to stay about from silky straight hair.

11. Oh yeah...please stop patting your weave in public! If you haven't noticed, the whole weave moves like it's a wig.

12. If you're relaxed, this is a good way to stretch your relaxers. You don't have to keep relaxing your entire head when you take down an install. If it's going to be braided up anyway, what's the point?

13. Do NOT use hair glue unless you want to be permanently bald, hair glue is a no no. (tip from Ms. Devo) If you're not interested in getting a sew-in weave, please try out the clip in extensions before getting a bonded weave. If you still go ahead and get bonded weave, please take all necessary steps in taking it out so you don't lose hair in the process.

14. Tips on washing hair while you have a weave:
I picked up this great tip from someone on BHM. Put your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner in separate water/applicator bottles. Dilute it with water, and pour it over your head so it reaches your braids. Gently massage your scalp, and rinse thoroughly. This works great!

15. This is the regimen that I follow when I have my sew-in. Remember I switch it up, and sometimes only wash every two weeks.
Wash 1x week with Creme of Nature (white bottle with green cap)
Condition w/ Mane N Tail
DC 1x week Pantene Pro V relaxed and natural dc mask (really good slip)
Leave in conditioner - Infusium 23
Moisturize every day by spraying a glyercin and water mix to by braids and to the hair that's left out. I also seal the ends of the hair that's left out with castor oil.
Clarify 1x month w/Suave clarifying shampoo

16. What are good brand weaves?
Inexpensive Beauty Supply Store Brands:

A little more Expensive, but very worth it (You can reuse these. Google them to find them on the net):
Extensions Plus relaxed texture

17. If you can't (or won't) spend the time DAILY to blend your real hair and the weave hair ............get a FULL HEAD weave (where all of your real hair to tuck out of sight)! Walking around with two different textures or colors...not only scream WEAVE it also is just plain tacky! (Tip by CurliDiva)

18. Buy vent brush or comb with you and USE IT regularly! A weave needs to be styled (either with a comb, brush or my your hands). Do not walk around with a tangled head of yaki hair that looks like you haven't touch it since you rolled out of bed. (Tip by CurliDiva)

19. It is possible to wear a "glued" weave without losing hair - but I definitely would not recommend using that nasty black glue (grey bottle with red tip). If you want a glued weave use Liquid Gold with Airflex strips. I did that with no problem at all. (Tip by Soulie)

20. To remove a sewn weave - don't use scissors - use a seam ripper to break the thread, then use a bobby pin, comb tail, or fingernail to pick the thread out. It takes a little longer, but there is no cut hair. (Tip by Soulie)

21. Invest in quality hair such as Extensions Plus, Nature Girl or Wagmans. All of them maintain their quality over time (even can be reused). This will reduce the amount of tugging against your own braids from attempting to detangle. (Tip by Soulie)

22. Wait at least 7-10 days after taking out your install before geting a touch up relaxer. For the same reason as number 9. (Tip by Bermudabeauty)

23. Tips on blending natural/transitioning hair with weave. If you bought a curly/kinky weave and you're natural, you might want to try using flexi rods or trying a braidout on the hair that you left out. That will help blend your hair with the weave. If you bought a straight weave, you'll more than likely have to constantly straighten it so that it blends in with the weave.

Hairfinity and Mini Plan Update

Hey Guys,
Hope you all are enjoying your days off (if you are off) for this Holiday Weekend. I recently purchased some hair vitamins called Hairfinity. After reading what the lovely ladies had to say about these vitamins and seeing the growth and thickness they had, I took the plunge and bought a 2 months supply of them.

This week I plan on going back to weaving it up until next spring. I'm going to weave a straight weave for about a month. Let me hair breathe (take a break from that install) for 2 weeks and then I'll rock my Bobraz until Christmas. Again, I'll take another break until New Years. Hopefully by then I'll be full BSB (below shoulder blade) or BSL (bra strap length).

Hair Update

Hey Guys,
My relaxer experience was a mess on Thursday. I got a relaxer from my stylist and mentioned that I scratched my scalp a little before I sat in her chair. She then based my scalp and proceeded to relax my hair with the Affirm relaxer. Before I knew it, the relaxer started to tingle. I thought it was because I scratched that area and ignored the warning signs. About one minute later it started to tingle by my temple. Again I ignored it...a few seconds later my whole head started to burn and I mentioned that it was burning, she said "already?" Then told me to give her a min. Then the burns became so extreme I started to shake and cry. It felt like my scalp was being scraped with a razor blade. I told her that I couldn't take it anymore and we went to go wash it out. While she was washing it out, the burns became so intense....the only thing I could think was that my hair is going to fall out straight from the scalp. She then washed my hair about 6 times to make sure that the relaxer was completely washed out.
While she was washing my hair she asked if I put anything in my hair before I relaxed it and then it dawned on me that I put the BT oil in my hair last Saturday (which was probably the cause of the burning).

My hair still has burns in it and i'm pampering it with Aloe until it's completely healed. Anywho, here's my update...After the trim...i'm now at the same place i was in April (ugh!!!!)

I know, I know, I've been missing for some time. I've just been dealing with a death in the family and trying to get my life back.

Lately I haven't been happy with the rate my hair is growing. I guess I shouldn't compare myself with the other members on LHCF.

What's new?
1. I started adding ceramides to my regimen. Since ceramides will cause product buildup, I will be co-washing once a week and shampooing my hair on Saturdays. I've been eyeing the Loreal Sulfate Free poo's for sometime, so I might be using that. I've also heard of some other good moisturizing poo's that I want to check out as well

2. I'm ending my 18 week stretch tomorrow. You know I won't leave you girls hanging, pics will be posted. I'm too lazy to prep my hair for my relaxer so I hope it takes (crossing fingers). I plan to have it relaxed, deep conditioned and then trimmed.

3. I've been eyeing these hair vitamins from Hairfinity and have been stalking the threads on LHCF. The ladies posted their results after 2 months and it looks like they've gotten 1/2 to 1 inch worth of growth with them. Not only did they get growth but most seemed to gain thickness as well! I can't knocked until I try it, so I plan on purchasing 2 bottles on Monday.

Hello All,
I know it's been a minute since i've posted (shame on me) but i wanted to let you know that i added something new to my regimen. CERAMIDES!

What's Ceramides?
Ceramides are essential to the cohesion of the cuticle and maintenance of its protective effect for the hair shaft. Ceramides are known to protect and/or repair the hair fibers from or after attack by blowdriers, flatirons, and everyday wear and tear. In particular, ceramides limit the loss of protein, which gives the hair more strength and liveliness.

Sistaslick wrote in an article: "Think of ceramides as hair glue. Without them, our cuticle layers would simply fall off and unhinge themselves, rather than gently weather and erode, from the constant damage they endure. Damaged hair has typically exhausted its natural supply of ceramides, and is often brittle, dry, and difficult to manage as a result. Many hair products contain synthetic, lab-created ceramides to help replace the ceramides naturally lost from the hair during regular washing, styling, and chemical treating. Ceramides are needed as a part of any basic moisture and protein conditioning plan to restore the hair's health.

What Do Ceramides Do?

Ceramides perform a "barrier function" and help reduce the hair's overall porosity. Ceramides bind to the hair fiber in damaged, vulnerable areas to help prevent natural moisture and protein loss that occurs when we manipulate our hair. Natural ceramides keep the hair fiber tight, and cuticles flat so that the hair shines and has low porosity.

Do note that ceramides can and often do build up on the hair shaft, so regular clarifying may be needed between conditionings. The build up associated with ceramides may also be linked to other ingredients in the product formula (i.e. oils, silicones). These ingredients tend to work hand in hand with ceramides more often than not, so whether it is actually the silicones, oils or ceramides causing the build up is ultimately of little consequence. The buildup will need to be clarified regardless of the instigating ingredient to prevent moisture problems down the road."

Don't have time to deep condition your hair? Try putting your deep conditioner in your hair, place a plastic cap over your head and the 2 wool or winter hats on top. Our heads create its own heat, so placing a wool or winter hat will create your own portable hair dryer especially during the summer months. I like to use this method before performing house duties such as cooking or cleaning up my apartment. When your done, wash it out and continue with your regimen.

I'm in LOVE.....again

I decided to co-wash last night but ran out of my VO5 Clarifying Conditioner so i ran to Rite Aid and to was saddened to see that there was none in stock! So I spent a good 20 minutes trying to find a replacement conditioner and now i'm in LOVE ladies!!!!

Q: Hi Trendsetta, I took out my braids last night after I steamed and DCd my hair only for ½ hr. And of course there was a CLUMP of dead/shed/broken hair. I am also starting to think that my hair is just shedding too much and it could be the Mega Tek tek and Ovation Cell Therapy. I mean I couldn’t really blame it that much b/c I’ve always had a shedding problem or always noticed a huge clump whenever taking out braids that were in for a long time. Plus I stopped taking my biotin and I was off my regi a couple of wks so maybe that added to it. But I am also thinking that the lace still has been pulling on my front and sides because it has shed and broken off a lot!! I am soooooo upset and so scared to get my hair pressed because I feel its going to look too thin, especially the front, and will be broken on the sides even more and I've been trying to grow them back in for like 3 yrs now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m praying it’s not as bad as it seems but I highly doubt that. I can see what I see…

So now I’m considering doing like you and coming off the Ovation Cell Therapy and Mega Tek Tek even though I just restocked and just using the sulfur faithfully each day…and also not wearing the lace for at least a month to see if there is a difference. But I am so not enthused to be wearing no natural styles! Especially when its time for me to dress up and go out.

How long have you been protective styling now? Do you see a major difference – more particularly to your front & sides??? How do you still co-wash and do all those applications now that your hair is not braided?? And my hair is not permed so that would mean I have to deal with my natural hair will be soooo much work especially with my regi. HELP!

A: First I’m sorry to hear about your setback. My hair has stopped shedding when I stopped using my Mega Tek Tek….I’m faithfully using my Boundless Tresses and it seems to be doing some good to my hair. I’ve been protective styling ever since I started my healthy hair journey….my protective styles were and is weaves, half wigs, wigs, cornrows and buns. My sides grew a lot when I used Mega Tek Tek, peppermint oil and castor oil (only on the bald spots). On a daily basis I moisturize and seal and then I part my hair in sections….oil it and then massage it in for 2 mins (sometimes I oil it every other day). I will either wrap or bun my hair at nights and tie it down with a silk scarf. This method does not weigh my hair down at all. The GNC Ultra Nourish-Hair vitamins have helped a lot with my growth. Can you bun for a month? I believe bunning will allow your hair to take a break from all the stress your lacefront gave to your edges. If your hair isn't long enough, try adding some fake hair to it.

So I'm sitting here with conditioner in my hair after relaxing my edges when a light bulb came on. "Why don't they make relaxers for those who are stretching their relaxers for 4+ months (like myself) and only want to relax their edges? The box can include a small amount of relaxer, activator, neutralizing poo, intensive moisturizing conditioner and a castor oil treatment mixed with peppermint oil to stimuate the scalp and to grow in the edges.
Who here agrees that this is a cool idea?

Hair Myths

I thought of a few hair myths that I need to share with you all, and why they're myths. I will try to make this a series as more come to mind.

Hair Myth #1- I don't want to wet my hair too much or my relaxer will wash out.

Wrong! - The relaxer process is a PERMANENT process. In an article titled The Truth About Hair Relaxers
by Cassia McClain we see that "both lye and "no lye" relaxers are very strong chemicals that work in the same manner by changing the basic structure of the hair shaft. The chemical penetrates the cortex or cortical layer and loosens the natural curl pattern. This inner layer of the hair shaft is not only what gives curly hair its shape but provides strength and elasticity. Once this process is performed it is irreversible."

Therefore if your seeing new growth in as little as 2-3 weeks, that means your hair is growing....NOT that the relaxer is washing away. Also, if your seeing new growth so fast but your hair is or has been stuck at the same length, then you have a problem with retention (will discuss in another post).

The article continues: "This process which produces the desired effect of "straighter" hair at the same time leaves hair weak and extremely susceptible to breaking and further damage. One must keep in mind that relaxers do not help the hair, but actually strip it. So by applying chemicals to the hair, even if it is to achieve a desired effect, is never really to the benefit of your hair health. Due to this, it is first strongly recommended that it be applied only under the direction of a hair care professional with a record of success with healthy hair care and chemical straightening, and that the client regularly obtains conditioning treatments before and after the process.

Possessing a healthy scalp beforehand decreases the possibility of problems occurring. Relaxers should never be applied to already damaged hair, or on someone who has had scalp damage. Age should also be considered. Although your young children may want to have the hairstyles they see on adults or other young people, parents should seriously consider applying such strong chemicals to young hair and the potential damage that could last a lifetime if misused; most times it is not necessary to apply any chemical product to young hair.

"Over processing", the excessive use of relaxers on the hair or applying the chemical to already processed or relaxed hair, is the most typical misuse of these chemicals. Once the initial relaxer is applied to "virgin hair" (or a "virgin relaxer" is performed), "touch-ups" (or chemical applied thereafter) should only be applied to new growth between 6-8 week periods (or more). This however, depends on the rate of hair growth and condition of the hair as advised by your hair care professional. (Some say that even six weeks is too soon to reapply relaxer to new growth). And it is standard to wait at least 2-4 weeks before applying hair color chemical (or dye) to recently relaxed hair, if applied at all. We remind readers that the more chemicals applied to hair the more possibility of damage may be experienced."

So ladies, try a personal challenge. If you relax your hair every 6-8 weeks....try stretching it to every 10-12. It can be done. Heck I stretched for 6 months! If you want to stretch the weeks and need ideas in styling and tackling the beauty of new growth....hit me up at trendsetta25@aol.com

Words of Advice from a Blogger to a Reader

Hi Ladies,
I received many emails from you with questions about regimens, products and general hair advice....which led me to post my words of advice. I will periodically post them as they come to my mind.
Advice #1
When beginning your hair journey, try not to compare your growth and health with others.

It took me a year to figure this out. I'm a slow grower. I get 1/4 of an inch a month! I started my HHJ (healthy hair journey) in Dec 07 at CBL (Collar Bone Length) and now 18 months later I'm about one or less than one inch away from APL (Armpit Length). My little sister on the other hand BC'd (big chopped - cut all her relaxed ends off to become natural) in July 2009. When she BC'd her hair was TWA (Tiny Winie Afro)...fast forward to today...her hair is the same length as mine. Let's do the Math...it took her 11 months to get 1 inch away from APL! Now I'm militant when it comes to my hair. My sister...she does nothing to her hair....she never deep conditions it, always leaves it dry and never sleeps with a silk scarf on. But as a child, she always had BSL hair until my mom relaxed it. Me...my hair has never gotten past SL.

The moral to this story is: be happy with where you are and how you got there. Think about it, if you never took the healthy hair route, where will your hair be? If I didn't start my HHJ, I probably would have platinum blonde broken, dry locks that barely reach CBL!!! My hair is the longest its ever been in my life and I'm loving it. Not only is it long and swangin' in my eyes but its healthy and thick.

Tea Rinsing!!!!

I've heard so many good things about Tea Rinsing and many of you new comers to my blog may wonder what it is and what are it's benefits?

"Hair rinse is a part of process of washing hair. Environmental factors such as pollution, sunrays, dry air, strong shampoos, dyes etc damage the hair to the great extent. A good hair rinse brings the shine and life back to the hair. Different kinds of hair rinses are used to condition the hair. There is network of blood vessels in the scalp and it provides hair with essential proteins and nutrients. The hair rinse acts directly on the scalp rather than acting on hair shaft.

There are two types of hair rinses natural and chemical based.

Chemical rinses: Conditioners

All of these are chemical based.

Natural Rinses: Benefits

Natural rinses are made from natural herbs and home ingredients. Natural rinses are better then chemical rinses. Natural rinses stimulate the circulation of blood in the scalp while chemical rinses just cover the hair with protective layer. Hair gets more strength if they are treated with natural rinses. Natural rinses promote healthy growth of hairs and give nourishment to hair follicles. Natural rinses help to repair damaged hair and give them a fresh look.

Procedure To Use Natural Rinse
A natural rinse is prepared from natural herbs. Take one teaspoon of herb and boil it with one cup of water. Simmer it for ten minutes and then strain it. After it gets cool, apply it into scalp and leave it on hair. Do not rinse it with water; just let it dry. Do not go for blow-drying; use a dry soft towel.

Home Ingredients As Natural Rinse
You can use some ingredients, found at home for hair rinses. You can go for tea rinse, which works wonders for hair. For a tea rinse, boil tealeaves in required quantity of water and strain. Lemon rinse can be prepared by adding lemon juice to a mug of water. You can use this rinses as a last rinse while washing hair. It is good rinse for oily hair. "

A Perfect Combination

Lately I've been in love with Queen Helene's Super Cholesterol Conditioner. This conditioners helps people with hair that suffers from too many chemical treatments, over-processing, blow-drying or exposure to the elements and restores extremely-damaged hair. It contains a proprietary Choleplex formula that blends Cholesterol with elements like Aloe and Keratin Amino Acid Protein to deep condition and rejuvenate over-stressed hair, while protecting it from future split ends and breakage.

Every wash I will put this stuff on dry hair and then seal it with either Honey or Evoo. Honey is a natural humectantthat retains moisture. It also helps hair increase its elasticity. Catching Up

Hope you all are enjoying the weekend. I know its been a while since I've posted on this blog....don't stone me.

How's things? Enjoying the weather? Its been beautiful in NY these past few weeks!!!!! Its 89 degrees right now and I'm loving it. I didn't get a chance to hit the beach up last weekend and won't be this week so I decided to catch a tan on my terrace.

I'm burning up! Lol. After tanning for about 15 mins I thought "since its so hot out I should DC as well". I then went in my room, slapped my Queen Helene Super Cholesterol Creme in my hair, sealed with EVCO & Honey. I then cover my hair with a plastic shopping bag and two wool hats.....viola! Now I'm tanning and dc-ing @ the same time.

Clever right?!

Most of the shampoos out on the market contain harsh sulfates that can strip your hair, causing it to become dry and eventually leading to breakage. How do you know if your shampoo contains harsh sulfates? Look at it's ingredients...harsh sulfates include:

Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
TEA Laureth Sulfate
TEA Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Shampoos with the above ingredients should be used for clarifying only. It's recommended that you clarify once a month. This will allow your hair treatments to penetrate your hair more effectively. Are there any gentle sulfates that will not damage your hair? YES! These include:

PEG 80
Sorbitan Laurate
Decyl Polyglucose
Cocamidoprpyl Betaine

Co-Wash Day!!!!

Today was the day I designated for co-wash day. As you guys know, I decided to revamp my regimen by cutting out the full head weaves and incorporating more conditioning to my weekly routine.
As I was at a company event today, all I could think about is "what time can I leave so that I can make it home to co-wash?" I left the event in time to do my full regi and I'm happy about that.
Lately my hair has been breaking while i'm combing my hair and I didn't and don't liked that ONE BIT! So I applied my ApHogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor to wet hair for 5 mins under my heating cap. Rinsed and then co-washed with my VO5 Kiwi Clarifying Conditioner. I lightly poured my Infusium 23 leave in treatment to my hair...and as a leave in I used my VO5 Moisture Milks. I then squirted my Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer to each section of hair before rolling into my rollerset. I sat under the dryer until my hair was completely dried (about 1hr), applied my EVCO to my hair, squirted my S-Curl to my hair and then wrapped it. The ends of my hair was a bit thick and frizzy because my hair dryer SUCKS, so I squirted the S-Curl to the ends which helped lay it down. And of course to end this regimen, I put on my silk scarf and called it a night.
This regimen surprisingly took about 1hr and 45 mins. Not bad at all!!! Let's see how long this regi will be when i'm 20 weeks post.

Ok so I was REALLY feeling the hairstyle I ended up with when I went to church....so I asked my lil sis to take pics. Enjoy!

Basically what I did was took the wrap out I had last night. Put hot roller in my hair and then pinned my hair to the side. I parted my hair in the opposite direction my wrap was which made the sweep bang nice and full. I got so many compliments on this style....it's a keeper!

Wash Day and Relaxer Update

Hey Guys,
Today was my first wash day as a newly and freshly relaxed chica and I must say....I LOVED IT! Aaah it felt soo good to not have to worry about braiding my hair in sections so that my hair would be easier to detangle. Before I get into my wash day regi I would like to give you the recap on how I took care of my hair after being freshly relaxed.

This week started a new regi for me and i'm going to be honest....I missed my first co-wash day out of pure laziness...lol. BUT!!!!! I kept my hair either pined up or in a pony all week and moisturized and sealed EVERY night. I followed the steps that Ms. FGrogan did in her YouTube video and I love it! What I did notice is that my hair didn't really feel as strong as I'd like it to be. I think if I start to co-wash weekly it would strengthen my hair a bit.

Today (wash day) I tried something different. I pre-poo'd with Queen Helene's Cholesterol Cream and my Amla Oil. I then placed a plastic bag over my head and covered it with two wool hats and took 3 hour nap...I dont know why I always get tired as soon as I start my wash day regi...lol.

When I woke up, I washed the Cholesterol and Amla Oil out with cool water and co-washed with my VO5 Clarifying Conditioner. My hair felt GREAT!!!!! After towel drying my hair I then squirted my Aphogee Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer and then applied my VO5 Moisture Milks Condish. I roller set and now i'm sitting under the hair dryer.

As i'm checking my hair to see if it is dry, I'm loving the way my hair feels! When my hair finally dries, I plan on doing my moisture and seal regi, wrapping it and then tie it down with a silk scarf.

If I'm consistent with this regi I believe that my hair will get stronger and much healthier. I am DETERMINED to make BSB by August!!!!

Re-Vamping Regimen

Since I'm not happy with the progress of my hair (as far as the length) I decided to switch my regi up this time around. I'm DETERMINED to make BSB by August or god help me!!! LOL

So this is my new regi:
-Wednesday and Saturday: Co-wash with VO5 Moisture Milks or Clarifying Condish

-Friday nights: pre-poo with Amla Oil and coconut oil overnight
-Saturday: rinse pre-poo and dc with any dc i have...(I'm a proud pj-er ) and then co-wash again
-Shampoo once a month with a Moisturizing poo
-Bun during the week and wear out on Sundays for church.
-Moisturize with S-Curl and seal with Dabur Vatika Olive Enriched Hair Oil, Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil

I LOVE the way fgrogan moisturizes and seals her hair. I've been practicing her method for 2 weeks now and I think this will be my staple method!

28 Week Stretch is OOOOVVVVEEEERRR!!!!!

I finally relaxed yesterday and it feels soooooo good to feel my scalp. My salon experience was AWESOME!!! Big ups to my stylist's assistant Charee to did the damn thing when relaxing (I had to tip that child $10...ok that's not enough but the whole service: relax, dc and trim was $90). Before she started I told her that I'm still on Accutane (even though I completed the full 6 month process on Sunday..the meds are still in my system). I explained to her that my scalp is very sensitive, she then told me calmly that she would base my scalp and that she would use Designer's Touch Relaxer because it's a moisturizing relaxer. She proceeded to base my scalp thoroughly and then relaxed. While she was relaxing she keep asking if it was burning. Once she was done she left a restructurizing conditioner in my hair for 5 mins and then shampoo'd with a neutralizing shampoo 4 times. She deep conditioned my hair for a half hour and then blow dried my hair.

Then it was off to Tangela my stylist. She was surprised to see how much my hair has grown! She flat ironed and then trimmed my hair. I'm a bit upset that I'm no longer APL, but I'm happy at how healthy my hair looks.

Girls,
I'm so excited to be ending my 28 week stretch! I feel like a kid on Christmas eve. I just might go to bed early so that tomorrow can come quickly! lol

Last night I prep my hair for the relaxer. When I got home from church I dc'd with my Aussie Moist 3 min deeeeep condish with a little bit of honey and EVOO. Then I shampoo'd with PC (Roux Porosity Control) and followed up with Suave Humectant. I then applied my VO5 Moisture Milks on towel dried hair and then blow dried on low heat. Lastly I sprayed S-Curl and sealed the ends with EVCO.

Ladies my new growth is blowing mine...I CANT wait to relax. I'll post pics tomorrow. Smooches!!!

I'm finally relaxing my hair next Saturday, which means that I had to take this weave out. I usually like to let my hair breathe for a week before I relax. Last night I pre-poo'd with Amla Oil, Coconut Oil and L’Oréal EverStrong Overnight Repair Treatment. I covered my head with a plastic bag and 2 wool hats and went to sleep. This morning I had a doctor's appointment and was too lazy to get up early to wash it out so I took the wool hats off, placed a wig cap on and threw my short wig on.

When I got home I started my regi....

I washed the Amla Oil, Coconut Oil and L’Oréal EverStrong Overnight Repair Treatment out and shampoo'd with Suave Humectant Shampoo. Ladies, this shampoo is da bomb! A little went a long way! It lathers up nicely and left my hair moisturized and oh so soft.
I deep conditioned my hair. I mixed: Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayo, 1 pack of my Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Pak, 1 tablespoon of EVCO (extra virgin coconut oil) Aussie Moist - 3 Minute Miracle Deeeep Conditioner, Aphogee 2 Min Reconstructor, 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of EVOO. Yes, that's a lot to mix together and to be honest...i didn't know what the heck I was doing....but lets just say that my hair felt soooooooooooooooo soft and moisturized when I was putting it in my hair. I dc'd for 4 hours (I dc'd under heat for 1 hour and then got sleepy so I put on my 2 wool hats and took a nap....lol) and then rinsed.
I washed out my dc and applied the Suave Almond and Shea Butter Condish and left it in my hair for about 10 mins. I wasn't happy with the way it made my hair feel. My hair felt hard and didn't have much slip to it. My hair could have felt hard because of the amount of protein I had in my dc mix but that shouldn't stop this condish from softening my new growth. I'll pass on this condish and give it to little sis who is natural. She co-washes all the time.
Lastly I applied my VO5 Moisture Milks and my Chi Straight Guard to my new growth. I then blow dried my hair in sections and then began to straighten it with my Izunami flat iron. This flat iron is really expensive, but definitely worth the money. This joint made my hair look like it was freshly relaxed. I've found that using the chase comb method works the best when tackling new growth...especially new growth like mine.

I loved the end results. My hair is nice and straight and feels strong. After my regi, I poured some EVCO into my hand and passed it through my hair, wrapped my hair and then put on my silk scarf. I really can't wait for my relaxer next Saturday! I'm planning on weaving again on the 14th of May (for a wedding). While I'm out of a weave, I will dc weekly and continue to apply my MN/MT mix every other day, bunning and co-washing weekly.

Hair Advice: Help...My Hair Won't Grow??? What am I Doing Wrong?

Have you ever wondered why your hair will not grow? It might be that you have bad hair habits that is preventing it from growing long and healthy. Here are some tips you can follow so that you can be on the road to healthy long hair in 2010!

Brushing your hair harshly
Brushing your hair too hard when detangling your mane can rip and tear your hair. Try using a silicone-based detangler on wet hair, and instead of using a fine-tooth comb, use a brush with a cushioned ball tip. Make sure you hold the hair very gentle and start at the ends and work your way up. My fellow longhaircareforum.com members swear by Denman Brushes. They rave that this brush is great to use to blow dry and detangle their hair. The Denman Classic Styling Brush D3 is currently on sale right now for $8.99.

Not Trimming your hair
I know, i know....black women hate to cut their hair...especially when you've been trying to grow it for years and it's now starting to touch your back! Well ladies, in order for your hair to grow long AND HEALTHY, you MUST TRIM! You have to trim your hair every eight week or when you see a need to, if not your hair will start to split. The split will continue up to the strands and start to break off. If you don't have the time and money to see a stylist to get a decent trim, a good product to try is Aphogee Gloss Therapy Hair Polish until you're able to see a stylist who can nip those split ends in the butt.

Tight Ponytails...A NO NO!!!!

We all love the look of a slick and neat ponytail, but did you know that you are breaking your hair as your pulling and tugging it into that clip? Pulling the hair tightly back puts stress on a delicate area and can cause thinness to your hairline (which is not cute). If your using a rubber band to keep your hair in place you are cutting your hair. If you are suffering from hair lost around the edges, trying mixing peppermint oil with your castor oil and apply it ever night to the balding edges. As you apply, massage the oils into the scalp. When putting your hair into a ponytail, try to use a gentle, cloth-covered elastic band instead to secure your style. My favorite brand to use is Goody.

Putting your curling or flat iron on a high setting

The hotter the iron, the better the style? I don't think so. Your hair will curl just as good when your setting is on low....actually I find that the style looks better when curled on a lower setting. If your hair sizzles when you put the iron on it, you are frying aka breaking your hair. Try using a piece of white tissue paper to do a heat-test. If the paper makes a sizzling sound, turn the setting down. Also note, curling the same section of hair over and over again can also cause damage to your hair. If you want curls, try buying a hot curler set instead of a curling iron. It is much safer on your hair and you can even apply your makeup while the hot roller are setting your hair! I use Conair Instant Heat Multi-Sized Hot Rollers with Heated Clips.

For those ladies who are already suffering from heat damage, you can try L’Oréal’s Everstrong product line to help repair your hair back to health. Counting the days...tick, tick, tick

I've found myself counting down the days till my next relaxer. I never thought I could stretch my relaxers this long! Today makes it exactly 26 weeks since my last touch up! Charee (my stylist assistant) is not going to be a happy camper when she sees this new growth.

I can't wait to see how much my hair has grown, the feeling of brushing my hair with my finger from root to tip without it stopping midway, I can't wait to leave that salon and have the wind blow my hair and I shake the fresh wash and set in slow motion as I get into my car one foot at a time, tossing my hair in a loose bun and throwing on some lips gloss, sunscreen and sunglasses when running out the door, knowing that I don't have to wash my hair in box braids because I fear the painful and long detangling process, can't wait for the first wash regi that doesn't leave me breaking combs and my 3 hrs process will be cut down to 2 hrs!

OK, so I'm 23 weeks post relaxer and I'm getting anxious. I planned on taking my latest bobraz install out in April but couldn't wait. If my calculations are right, my hair grows approximately 1/2 an in a month, which means that APL is literally around the corner. I had a terrible flood in my apartment this morning so i had to take off from work today to handle that situation. As I'm sitting here waiting for the carpet to dry i decided to take my install out. The anticipation was killing me.
I'm currently under my conditioning cap and surfing the net as i wait for it to turn 5:44p. I'm hoping and praying that my hair grew at least an inch since my last hair update in January. I can't accurately measure my growth since i have sooo much new growth (pics to come).

So ladies...what do you have plan for the first day of spring tomorrow? It's supposed to be 72 degrees here in the NYC (woo hoo)!

Closures....What are they???

Hey Guys,
I want to put you onto a trend that's been going on in the hair weave world....CLOSURES. What is a closure? According to Halley's Curls, closures are placed in the “horseshoe” area at the top of a weave to close off the style. It allows the wearer to wear a full weave, with none of their natural hair left out, yet provides the illusion of a scalp. Closures can be completely sewn into place, or they can be partially sewn or clipped into place and the lace front attached with adhesives Silk closures are made to looks like natural skin without the need for any after-purchase adjustments. The silk can be easily tinted to match the wearer’s skin tone. Swiss lace closures are comparable to the base of a lace wigs. During installation of a Swiss lace closure, the addition of a piece flesh colored fabric, such as that cut from a wig cap, will aid in creating the illusion of a scalp.

Closure and Lace Frontal - What is the difference between the two??

Note: The big difference in a lace frontal and a closure is the construction, the materials used, and how they are applied. In GENERAL a closure piece is usually used for sew in installs/applications. If placed properly just behind the hairline, it can allow the wearer to wear a full weave with no hair left out while giving the appearance of a natural scalp area.

Closures do not run temple to temple. Instead they are placed in the “horseshoe” area at the top of a weave to close off the style. (Hence the name closure)

The most popular breathable closures are constructed from silk mesh with a poly strip or thin skin around the outer perimeter of the mesh which strengthens the mesh (for a sewn-in application) or to make bonding the closure easier. These closures allow for freestyle parting along the cap area. The addition of a flesh colored stocking under will help to add the look of a natural scalp to this style of closures. This type of closure may require the sealing of the knots (as in a lace frontal) to help keep the hair secured firmly in the base.

Some vendors also construct closures from lace similar to or slightly heavier than a lace frontal. Lace based closures are installed like other closures, but may not look as natural when parted as they will tent to have a “grid” like appearance in contrast to the braided foundation they are installed on top of.

A few vendors use a combination of stretch lace and flesh colored French silk to create a breathable closure which looks like natural skin. The “skin” can be dyed to match the wearer’s own natural skin.

While not nearly as popular these days, some vendors continue to manufacture and sell non breathable closures. These closures are usually a silk mesh top with a full flesh colored poly coating or full flesh colored vinyl skin top (which was once popular in older style wigs)

How is it installed??
Closures can be installed by bonding, as well as by attaching with the use of clips. The most popular method for installing closures is by sewing the closure then installing the rest of the weave around the closure. The closure is placed close to the edge of the braided foundation near the hair line.. The stylist then sews around the perimeter of the closure taking acre to stitch so that the stitches are concealed.

Depending on the desired finished style, some of the wearer’s own natural hair may or may not be left out near the perimeter of the front edge of the closure to help conceal the front edge.

Like a closure, lace frontals can be sewn in place or applied using clips. However a natural hairline will not be achieved if sewn or clipped in the front. Most stylists install a lacefrontal using clips or by sewing down the back of the frontal and use a bonding agent to glue the front hairline down.

Unlike a closure, none of the wearers own hair will be left out in a bonded lacefrontal installation as the piece is meant to create a natural hairline

What are my styling options
Unlike the closures of old you are not limited to simply the “China Doll” bangs look with a closure. Closures (in particular the freestyle parting variety) will allow plenty of styling freedom. Freestyle caps allow you to part anywhere along the cap to create the style you want. Swoop bangs, etc are possible. With a good installation technique and skilled haircut, you can achieve many styling options with a closure.
The one restriction is with styles which pull the hair completely off the face. These kinds of styles are generally not possible with closures (even with a GREAT install and cut). As these pieces are not designed to specifically mimic a natural hairline off the face styles will make it difficult to discretely conceal the front edge of the closure.. Some manipulation of the installations techniques (for example bonding the closure close to the hairline) may allow some of this kind of styling versatility.

How long does it last??
The lifespan of a closure depends on the quality of the hair and the cap construction. Well constructed closures can last as long as 3-5 years. Others have a lifespan of 3-12 months. Again the lifespan depends on many factors that contribute to the wear factor. (care, quality, etc..)

How to add fabic to lace closure

Here's my "scalp" materials:
1.Light tan silk chiffon - I chose light tan because between dying the fabric a darker tan color and the fact that the sheer fabric was going to be laid on top of a dark surface (my hair), I knew I could get the right color and not make the scalp too dark.
2.Ziplock bag - I used a Ziploc bag because I needed a clear sturdy material to make a pattern/template from.
3.FrayBlock - To ensure that the fabric does not ravel after it's cut to size.
4.#5 Ballpoint needle - Ballpoint needles will be less likely to cut the hair when sewing the scalp piece onto the closure. Sharpies could scratch and cut the hair shaft.
5..004 guage clear nylon thread - You'll need GOOD lighting to feed this thread through a #5 needle!
Here's the steps I took:
◦After I cut back the lace, I bleached the knots on the closure. I bleached to a dark blonde.. (a tip I got on another website I found in a Google search) The knots disappeared and about 1/32 of an inch of the hair coming out of the lace was lightened, really making the hair much more natural looking - as if growing directly out of your head. It made a HUGE difference in how natural the closure looked.. (IMPORTANT!!! If the knots on your closure are not bleached, the knots will show up CLEARLY against the fabric "skin" and look VERY un-natural!!! The unbleached knots will have a GRIDLIKE appearance against the fabric "skin". Sometimes even closures that say the knots are bleached will need to be bleached again to give it a more realistic appearance)

◦I then sealed the outer edge of my closure to seal up the cut edge of the lace and prevent shedding and raveling. I used my Extensions Plus sealant. However, there is a very similar sealant that can be found through Hair Extensions 101 (http://hairextensions101.com)

◦I made a template of the closure area by laying the ziploc bag over the closure and tracing the outline of the parting area with a Sharpie. I cut out the pattern and set it aside for after the next step.

◦I dyed my fabric with a little watered down semi permanent color. Then I laid my freshly dyed scalp fabric out on a styrofoam board. I laid my template on top and used T-Pins to hold every thing flat and in place. Then I lightly traced the outline of the scalp piece in pencil.

◦Once I have my putline drawn on the fabric, I then took FrayBlock and applied it around the pencil outline. I made sure that I allowed it to flow just inside and outside of my pencil line. Once the FrayBlock dried, I cut along the pencil line to get my scalp piece. (You could apply a little more FrayBlock along the cut edge just for good measure if you like.)

◦I then attached the scalp to the underside of the closure using the clear nylon thread and a #5 ballpoint needle. I used an over cast stitch, and made sure to keep my stitches small and tight, but was I careful not to pull so tight in order to ensure that the closure and the scalp piece stayed nice and flat.
When I was done I ended up with a closure that looked like a real scalp if I do say so myself.

I don't know about you guys, but i can't wait for Spring to arrive. I will not only be off Accutane but i will finally be APL. Even though i will hit my first Healthy Hair goal, i will still use weaves and wigs as my protective styles until i reach BSL. Believe me, protective styles can be boring...i know, but i found a great youtube from Ms. Ateyaaa of a style that i will definitely be rocking this spring. I think after i relax on May 8th, I'll wait until June before i put any type of weave in my hair. But once June hits....i'm buying JESSICA...no if's, and's or but's about it! Check it out!

Another Install - Bohyme Brazilian Wave aka Bobraz

Last weekend I decided to install my last weave before I end my 7 month stretch. I'm officially planning on relaxing May 8th and I seriously can't wait. The new growth isnt really bothering me, i'm just anxious to see if I will make my goal of APL.

Since i was snowed it, i used that opportunity to install my weave. Before installing my weave i took care of my hair underneath. First I pre-poo'd with Amla Oil for 1 hour. Co-washed (condition washed) with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration (HEHH)and then dc'd with ORS Hair Mayo, 1 tbsp or Honey and EVOO for 1 hour. Rinsed and then co-washed again with HEHH. Remember, since i'm 20 weeks post my new growth makes it hard to detangle, so i always braid my hair in 8 box braids. After the washing and drying process i continue to cornrow my hair in the pattern below.

After finishing my braid pattern/base, i applied my MT, MN, Castor Oil and Peppermint oil mix to my scalp and then started to add my Bobraz. I followed SenCiti's sewn in pattern and blending method to achieve the final look.

Miconazole Nitrate (MN)

Miconazole Nitrate is one kind of a synthetic antifungal. The idea behind this treatment is that the anti-fungal works on the scalp to increase hair growth by killing fungus living on the scalp and potentially slowing hair growth or blocking the follicles. The most common brand names for MN include Lotrimin AF, Micatin and Monistat. Generic brands are also available with different names.

Some people who choose to use this product will combine their Miconazole Nitrate creams or gels with cayenne pepper, which is a known hair root stimulator. The best cayenne pepper has at least .1% of Capsaicin which can be found in Capzasin HP. I usually mix my MN with Castor Oil as well.

Cons: Some people have complained of headaches while using this problem. I personally haven’t experienced this problem. I guess it's because I mixed mine with Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil.

I’ve tried each of these products and found success. I can’t say which works better because I usually combine these products. I’ve mixed my MT /OCT with Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil or mix my MN/MT with Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil. While using any or all of these products, remember this:

1. Moisture: Keep your hair moisturized. Do what you know is best for moisturizing your hair. Use your favorite DC's (Deep conditioning products/regimes). Just make it easy for YOU.

2. Other Proteins: Stay away from them. MT and OCT are products that are protein heavy and you do not need other proteins. It will dry your hair.

***Please note: I am only stating the facts about these products based on my own trial and error. If you decide to pursue this on your own be sure to first consult with your physician if you are pregnant, nursing, have a history or chronic sinus problems, migraine headaches or chronic yeast overgrowth.

Weekend Regi Update

First I would like to apologize for the late post. I've been sick since last Friday
with a throat infection. Anywho, I wanted to share with you guys what I did to
my hair last weekend.
I decided to take my weave out on Friday after work. Aah if felt so good to feel
my hair again. Since I'm 19 weeks post-relaxer I had to be very gentle with my
new growth and relaxed ends. I applied some Amla Oil to my hair, covered it with
a plastic bag and 2 wool hats. By putting on the two wool hats, I'm able to give
myself an overnight hot oil treatment (since your head creates its own heat). I
kept that in overnight and woke up Saturday morning to start my wash regi.
Because I'm 19 weeks post I had to braid my hair in 8 box braids so that it will
not tangle during the whole wash and dry process. *If you have problems with
detangling you hair, I would suggest using this method.

Wash Day Regimen-
I shampoo'd my hair with Suave Clarifying Shampoo since I didn't wash my hair
when I had my weave in. Then to put the moisture back in, I followed up with
Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Shampoo.
After I shampoo'd I then deep conditioned my hair with ORS (Organic Root
Stimulator) Hair Mayo, 2 tablespoons of EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and Honey.
I warmed this concoction up in the microwave for 30 seconds, mixed then applied
to my hair. I dc'd (deep conditioned) for 1 hour under my conditioning cap and
then rinsed with cold water. Finally, I applied Herbal Essence Hello Hydration
Condish and then proceeded with the rest of my regi.
Tired yet?
After washing and deep conditioning my hair I sprayed my Aphogee Keratin & Green
Tea Reconstrutor to protect my hair from the heat of my overhead hair dryer.
After my hair was dry, I cornrowed my hair in 8 braids and sealed the ends with
pure coconut oil and castor oil. I spritzed my hair with my moisture mix,
applied my Mega-Tek mix to my scalped and tied my hair down with a silk scarf.

I plan on keeping my hair braided like this for two weeks until I install my
curly weave on the 26th. Remember, try to give your hair a 1-2 week break after
taking out an install.  So ladies, its Friday....what are your hair plans for

Castor Oil = Long Hair?

Recently I read an article from long-healthy-hair-advisor.com and thought I’d share it with you. I'm a faithful Castor Oil user myself and know for sure that the information presented below is true. Enjoy!

Benefits of Castor Oil

* Castor oil contains Omega-9 fatty acids which help moisturize the hair and the scalp preventing both from becoming dry.

* Does castor oil help hair grow? It sure does. Regularly applying castor oil to your scalp and roots to eliminate dry hair and promote re-growth of hair within months. It will also help to thicken hair that is thinning out.

* Helps reduce and prevent damage. Also can hide the appearance of damage while trying to improve your hair's health leading to thicker, fuller hair over time.

* You can also experiment with adding some castor oil to your conditioners for a deep conditioning treatment. You'll have to experiment with the amount of castor oil to use to avoid greasy hair. I would start off with a small amount like a teaspoon or less.

* Castor oil is versatile in that you can mix it with other oils to still receive the benefits but avoid the super-thick consistency. Try mixing it with Sweet Almond Oil to make it a lighter oil that is much easier to spread and gives it a nice scent.

If you have difficulties in finding Jamaican Black Castor Oil in a drugstore, you can check out online retailers to get the purest form of this oil.
The reasoning behind looking for black castor oil is to have an unrefined oil.
Using the unrefined or purest form of castor oil for hair will ensure that you get the best results because the oil is still closest to its natural state. The color will typically be darker and the scent will be much richer.

Castor Oil Homemade Recipe

Castor oil can be used in homemade recipes just like many other oils. One thing to note: Don't apply castor oil full-strength to the rest of your hair because it may be difficult to rinse off thoroughly due to its consistency.

Here's a castor oil for hair recipe that works well for those experiencing any type of hair loss or hair thinning:

Apply to the scalp and roots of your hair.

Saving Your Damaged Hair

Ladies, we all view our hair as precious. But if you've noticed that your hair is damaged, you have two options. 1. To cut it or 2. To save it. A lot of ladies are able to save the damaged hair through weaves or wigs, but remember if you choose this option you MUST take care of your hair underneath it all.

Tips on how to take care of your hair under your weave:

Length of time to wear your weave - It's recommend that you wear your weave no longer than 2 to 3 months. The weave itself may hold up much longer, but it's really about your hair underneath. The longer you keep your the weave in the more likely your hair will start to dread underneath. Dreaded or badly tangled hair = MAJOR HAIR LOSS

Moisture, Moisture, Moisture - Make sure your hair stays moisturized under your weave. You can moisturize your hair with a light oil like carrot oil or coconut oil. I say light because you don’t want to weigh your weave down with oils. I personally have a moisture mix concoction. I mix glycerin, coconut oil, rosewater and jojoba oil into a spray bottle and lift up my track and spray. My install does get weighed down after I moisture my hair but to solve that problem I would then wash the hair only in my kitchen sink to get rid of any oils that touched the weave.

Shampooing your hair under the weave - It is easier to shampoo your weave while in the shower to help minimize or even eliminate tangling. Tilt your head back and gently wash the hair. A lot of weave wearers (including myself) use an applicator bottle to mix shampoo and water. Shake it, and then squirt the shampoo suds in between the tracks. You can do the same with the conditioner. Rinse thoroughly. After you’re done with your wash session, make sure that your hair is dried completely underneath or your hair will mildew. I like to sit under a hair dryer for about an hour to make sure that my hair is completely dry. If you need a video that shows how you can wash your weave click here.

Combing, Brushing and Styling - Be easy when styling your hair. Remember the weave is attached to your actually hair and you don’t want to cause more stress than necessary.
Post-Install - Try to space out each install. When i take my install out i would wait about 2 weeks before installing a new round. I would make sure i give myself a good deep condition and a trim. If you want, try rocking a wig in between your install break. It's easier on the hair. I personally would take my install out, deep condition, air dry, moisturized my hair and scalp and cornrow it. If I’m going to work, church or running errands i would slip a wig on and go.

Relaxed Hair - If you relax your hair, wait at least 2-3 weeks before installing your weave. Remember your hair is more fragile when you relax and you don’t want to add stress to your scalp and strands with a heavy weave.

Ladies, you can actually grow and repair damaged hair through weaves. I've done it, it is possible. Remember to give your hair some TLC and time and you'll see improvements.

Kima - Yaki Perm

A few weekends ago I decided to take out my Bohyme Brazilian Wave and install a straight weave until President's Weekend. I had some Lugo's hair left over from my summer install but wanted to add fresh hair to the batch. I didn’t have the money to shell out to get some more hair from Lugo's, so I decided to go to the beauty supply store (BSS) and get packaged hair (which by the way I HATE!). The young lady in the store recommended that I use a brand called "Kima - Yaki Perm" which is made by Harlem 125. I was suspect but thought "I have no ends so I might as well suck it up and get the hair".

I spent $24.99 for 1 pack and the length was 16 inches (not bad at all). I went home, braided and sewed the weave in and then washed the hair and to my surprise the hair didn’t matte or tangle!!! I've had this weave in for 3 weeks now and have washed it at least 4 times and it's bouncer and shiny as can be. This hair does not like product in it; the less product, the more natural it looks. Girls, this hair is the bomb! I highly recommend buying this hair when you're on a budget.

As I was sitting on my bed last night pondering on my hair goals for 2010 I started to flash back on my hair journey. Growing up I always thought that my hair couldn't grow...and if it did, it would didn't grow past my neck (NL: neck length). I finally gave up on my hair and decided to just cut it all off in the summer time and rock a weave during the winter months. A co-worker of mine told me about Long Hair Care Forum, and after reading the many posts I found out my hair actually had hope.

Everyone’s hair grows...at different rates, but it grows. The main reason why a lot of African American women have problems with hair growth is because they don't understand the concept of retention and very often abuse their hair and scalp.

Here are some tips for you ladies:

Remember the ends of your hair are the oldest and it must be taken cared of. As long as you keep your hair moisturized and protect those ends you should be straight. If possible, try to moisturize your hair nightly and tie your hair down with a silk scarf. If you don’t have a silk scarf then use a silk pillow case to protect your hair while you sleep.
When you apply moisturizers or conditioners to your hair...never neglect the ends of your hair!
There are wonderful growth aid products out there such as Mega Tek and Ovation Cell Therapy. Products like these boost the rate of your hair growth.
Eating healthy, drinking plenty of water and exercise also helps with the health of your hair.
Massage your scalp nightly. You must NOT scratch your scalp if it gets flaky, try massaging more, patting, or softly removing scales with a comb. Scratching tears the skin or makes it easy for bacteria to enter and infections to arise.
Heat can be your enemy. Try to limit the use of heat (i.e. flat irons, curling irons, pressing combs and blow driers). If you do use any of these products, try using them at a low temperature.
Protective Styling is your friend! I've managed to keep my hair healthy and I was also able to retain my length by using weaves as a protective style. There's plenty of protective styles you can use such as bunning, weaves, braids, half wigs, wigs, lace fronts.....the list goes on!
Deep conditioning is your friend. Try to do this weekly and your hair will thank you. To spice up your deep conditioner, try adding a little honey or extra virgin olive oil.
When detangling, try using conditioner to soften your hair and then detangle starting from the ends up working your way to the roots. I love Mane and Tail's Detangler!!! Treat your hair like fine china...handle with care and always remember that your hair is most fragile when wet.
We all like that creamy crack called a relaxer and let’s not forget that color box. If you do color or relax try to keep it at a minimum. I personally relax my hair ever 16-18 weeks, instead of the usual 6-8 weeks.
Dust or trim your ends when needed to avoid split ends. I trim my ends after each relaxer process.

I've been using this oil as a pre-poo and i must say i'm in LOVE! It's made my hair very thick and shiny. I usually use this oil after i take my weave out. As I take each cornrow out i would saturate each strip of hair in the oil until my hair is completely covered. Then I would put on a plastic bag and a wool hat on top and go to sleep. Your head creates it's own steam so putting the wool hat gives me a light version to a hot oil treatment. When i wake up i wash the oil out and continue my wash day regimen.

One thing I must say about this oil is that it STINKS!!!!! I hate the smell but love the product.

First I would like to welcome all to "Hair We Go". As you can see it's been years since I've posted on this blog but I'm back **tches.!
During my time away I learned a lot about hair care and I'm proud to say....BLACK HAIR CAN GROW! So I invite you all to take this healthy hair journey with me. My ultimate goal is to be WL (Waist Length) by December 2011 (crossing my fingers).
I still have a huge knowledge on weaves, wigs, and braids and most recently taking your hair from badly damaged to healthy and long so hit me up with any questions you may have.

Oooh she got some good hair!

Many of you have seen pictures of Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and/or Tyra Banks and have said...."Wow she has some good hair?" Dont be fooled gurl...the newest craze in celebrity weaves are lace front wigs.

This technique was first used for individuals who lost their hair due to an illness. Because the results looked so fabulous and real many celebs wanted this easy, fast, and real technique done.

The process is very painless, keeps your hair healthy if maintained and will last up to months. A very thin French Lace or Welded Mono Lace is placed on the front of the unit from temple to temple and back about 2"-3" or so. The lace is invisible to the eye and hair appears to be growing from the scalp, even with up close scrutiny. The back of the wig is made the same way as before, with tape tab perimeter. The lace front is attached with a special lace tape or SoftLoc adhesive that is applied to the skin in lace area only.Then the wig lays down on top of adhesive, no tape is required in front. This lace front is designed to be replaceable because it is very fragile. You must treat it very gently!

Hello My Hair Divas!

Have you ever walked down the street, passed a girl with a jacked up weave and thought "Boo that aight foolin nobody"? Have you seen girls on the bus with their tracks showing and wanted to cover it? If you wished your homegurl Kiki could hook that chick's hair up and YOU would pay for it...then i need you to help me out with an addition to my blog.

I am currently scouting for Hair-Parazzi's. All you will need is a digital or cell phone camera and a working email address. If you spot a chick with a busted weave, tracks showing, wrong texture extensions, braids that have been in too long that the natural hair is turning into lint, no hair but she still wanted to put that mess in a ponytail, 4 hairstyles in one (bob weave, fingerwave, ponytail, twist, cornrows, and some glitter!)...etc. then email your photo's.

I will post your pictures on my blog (don't worry cousin Na Na no one will know it's you..I'm hiding the faces). Below the picture i will help the individual posted by giving them and my devoted reader some hair tips so that that ish will not happen again! :-)

Winter Hair Care

The dry and cold winter can be very damaging to your hair. It can easily become dry during this time of year from the dry indoor heating and the dry cold weather outside.

You may want to rock those cute hats and scarfs you see in those magazine but you have to remember that it's not fitted too tightly on your head. this will restrict circulation in your scalp.

Limit your use of "hot" items on your hair such as a blow dryers and curling irons. If you need to use a "hot" item use a leave in conditioner before using the item on your hair.

Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water, use warm or cool water instead, the heat can dry out and/or damage your hair .

Hair products that have the word, "Replenish" on it is made to moisturize your hair.

The Beyonce

Thinking about rocking the Beyonce look at the next holiday party but don't know how? All you need is the right hair and this blog and your good to go!

If you have naturally long hair this style will be a breeze for you:

1. Start by washing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo (try Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo )

2. Condition, Condition, Condition!!!! If you want sleek, shiny, healthy strand you must condition your hair (try Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner)

3. Add Foaming Wrap Lotion generously (try Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion)

4. Create a middle part, roller set your hair and sit under the hair dryer.

5. Once your hair is completely dry, take out the roller and separate each curl with your fingers till you get your desired look.

For those of you who live by the motto "Buy it if you can't grow it":

1. Follow the first two steps above.

2. Section your hair, leaving room for a center part as well as an inch of hair on each side.

3. Braid your remaining hair vertically from the crown to the nape for the neck using half inch partings. Secure the ends of the cornrows with a needle and weaving thread creating closure with no spaces. Remember, the key to this technique is to hide the braids and to make the hair lay flat with a natural feel to it.

4. Apply your desired hair (18' Yaki hair in the color of your mane) in a horizontal pattern. Make sure your space the tracks about one half inch apart from each other.

5. Razor cut the front to create a realistic look as well as a nice bounce to your curls once it's been created. 110 degree razor cut is preferred starting from the forehead and working down toward the nape.

6. Apply a light oil to your hair to blend your hair with the weave.

7. To create soft curls use a medium curling iron over your entire head.

To maintain this look, create large pin curls using large bobby pins to hold the curls in place. Release the pins in the morning and finger through your hair to set the style.

Many in the hair world know that a good hairstylist is hard to find. Well luckily my blog readers your search is over. You can always find a good hairstylist when you see that girl pass you on the street and you are tempted to say "Gurl who does your hair?" I did and i will never leave her. Now I'm here to share with you the lovely stylist who cut my hair into the beautiful creation you see on the first blog i posted. Not only will i share her name, address, and salon number...but i encourage to all to support the person who hooks you up on a daily, weekly, monthly or like me seasonal basis by posting your favorite stylist, what they specialize in and where to find them in the comment section of this post.

Picture this. You had a long weekend of house cleaning, entertaining the in-laws, and laundry. You wake up Monday morning to go to work and you find yourself pressing the snooze button for the um-teenth time. When you finally get the strength to get out of bed you notice that you are running majorly late!!! OMG what am i to do with my hair?! You thank God that you purchase that cute new wig in the beauty supply store. You take a quick shower, put on your make-up, slip on that wig, get dressed and you are out the door in no time. Owning a wig can save you so much time in the morning. The last thing you have to think about when you wake up late for work should be your hair. Many people think that wigs are for old people but they are so wrong! Anyone can rock a wig like it's their own hair and not feel like Grandma Lucy ;-)

Here are some tips to keep in mind once you purchase that fly wig on sale:

Do not grab the first wig you see! Look for one that fits you like a glove.
Always wear a wig cap underneath. Wearing a wig cap protects your hair underneath and can offer extra style support.
DO NOT USE HEAT ON A SYNTHETIC WIG!!!!
If you are a regular wig user do not neglect your hair underneath. You natural hair still need to be shampooed and conditioned weekly. Apply a conditioning treatment every time you shampoo can help keep the moisture in.
Make sure you maintain your wig's style at night by placing it on a wig block or mannequin head to keep it's shape.
Wigs do not last forever so remember you should change it every six to eight months if you wear it on a daily basis.
You may not think this is necessary to wash your wig but if you wear your wig on a daily basis, it would be a good idea to wash your human hair wig and let it air dry.

Hair Tip for the Day!

To maintain a healthy mane, pamper it for a few minutes each night by making sure it is covered with a silk or satin scarf.
Ma sage your scalp every few days to stimulate healthy oil production and circulation. Doing this may help promote hair growth, but be gentle.
Handle your mane with gently care. Shampoo, comb, and brush gently to prevent breakage. When blow-drying, keep the setting on warm and hold the dryer at least 12 inches away from your hair.
Use hot oil or a creamy hair mask. Place a plastic cap or let the conditioner sink in for about 15-20 minutes before you rinse.
Try to trim your hair every 6-8 weeks. Trimming dead hair and split ends will allow your hair to maintain it's healthiness and keep the hair from splitting.
Eat right and exercise for a healthy body and head of hair.
If you must use a heat appliance, apply a heat protector product to keep your mane from being damaged.

When Rihanna was set to release her third album "Good Girl Gone Bad" she took the world by storm with this edgy bob. This style can be created with a weave by first washing, conditioning and blow drying the hair. If you want this style for a couple of weeks i would suggest the sewed method. Separate one inch around the edges of the head to be left out and proceed to cornrow the hair straight back. Starting from the nape area, sew the weaving hair in color #1, leaving one inch in between each row all the way to the crown. Next, use a razoring and a point cut technique to create an asymmetrical proportion. To style, use a flat iron from root to tip to get this sleek sophisticated look. Add a little hair serum for shine and your good to go!

For another look, simply add soft curls by wrapping your hair around a medium curling iron. Add a little spritz to keep this wonderful style in place.

As i was searching the Internet for beauty advice for African Americans i came up short. We have limited access to hair advice on the Internet. I was so frustrated with my search results, so i decided to create a blog page for those out there seeking the hair advice i was once searching for.

As a child i was always obsessed with hair. As an adult i bought every new issue of "Black Hair Magazine" or "Hype Hair". I've purchased and tried almost every product for African American Hair. I am now please to share with you my my knowledge Ive accumulated over the years.
